ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A winter storm will approach Denton County from Friday afternoon through late Saturday night, and officials expect the power grid to hold though ice may cause localized outages. Gov. Abbott has activated state emergency resources, urging residents to prepare for hazardous travel conditions.  Cross Timbers Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • ERCOT said the grid is ready for a winter storm that will bring subfreezing temperatures by Friday and possible ice through Saturday. Denton residents are advised to prepare by checking home systems and stocking emergency supplies — officials confirm resources are in place to meet rising power demands.  KERA
  • Shoppers are stocking up on winter supplies as Gov. Abbott (who ordered TDEM to activate state emergency resources) prepares for a potential ice and snow storm coming Thursday in the DFW area. Supplies include firewood, deicing materials, and basic groceries.  CBS Texas

    UNT will honor the memory of Gene Fuhrman, NTSU 1986, with a short ceremony to open an exhibit in his honor. The exhibit commemorates the work of Gene and his parents in developing Muenster Telephone Co. into one of the finest rural telecommunications companies in the the USA, and show cases the evolution of telecommunications technology.
