ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A winter storm in North Texas caused nine deaths from icy accidents, including a Ponder High school student fatally injured in a sledding incident (he was injured on Jan. 26 and died on Jan. 29) and others in Colleyville and Fort Worth.  CBS Texas

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Abbott issued a statewide disaster declaration on Jan. 30 to guard against the New World Screwworm entering Texas; the announcement directs the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Texas Animal Health Commission to form a response team that will use full state resources to prevent the parasite's spread.  KERA

    UNT will honor the memory of Gene Fuhrman, NTSU 1986, with a short ceremony to open an exhibit in his honor. The exhibit commemorates the work of Gene and his parents in developing Muenster Telephone Co. into one of the finest rural telecommunications companies in the the USA, and show cases the evolution of telecommunications technology.
