COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Denton Natatorium will close from February 9 to March 22 for essential repairs (upgrading the pump room, roof, pool deck, and pool shells) as it prepares to serve the community better, with plans to reopen in late March.  Voice of Denton

CULTURE NEWS

  • Denton is celebrating literacy with the month-long READiculous Book Palooza in February, featuring workshops, readings, and movie screenings at local venues, and it culminates on February 28 at a multi-venue gathering. Participants can complete a BINGO card + win prizes while supporting local education.  Voice of Denton

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rutwik Duggireddy resigned from his SGA president role on Feb. 4 to focus on his final semester at UNT. Vice President Armando Sanchez will step in for the remainder of the term with his first meeting scheduled later today.  North Texas Daily

FINANCE NEWS

  • Regulators approved 43 utility rate hikes last year, raising bills nationwide while eight more are set to go live in coming months. Denton residents may see similar increases as utilities work to repair aging infrastructure and meet growing energy demand.  CBS Texas

SPORTS NEWS

  • Registration for the youth spring hockey league opened on Sunday for teams at Northlake StarCenter with over 190 spots for players aged 6U+18U. Regular season games will start March 30 at the facility which will also offer pre-hockey clinics and a Hockey Academy.  Cross Timbers Gazette

  • Grand Opening - Gene H. Fuhrman Memorial Telecommunications Education Center

    UNT will honor the memory of Gene Fuhrman, NTSU 1986, with a short ceremony to open an exhibit in his honor. The exhibit commemorates the work of Gene and his parents in developing Muenster Telephone Co. into one of the finest rural telecommunications companies in the the USA, and show cases the evolution of telecommunications technology.
