- ➤ On Feb. 19, the Board of Regents discussed the university’s growing $45 million deficit caused by a drop in international enrollment and state funding. University President Harrison Keller (who addressed the financial challenges) said a new artificial intelligence degree for the College of Engineering will launch in August. North Texas Daily

- ➤ Dry, warm, and windy weather in North Texas is raising wildfire risks and led to a Red Flag Warning Thursday in several counties — crews from fire departments are battling large blazes in the Panhandle as officials urge residents to avoid actions that could spark new fires. NBC 5

- ➤ TxDOT began closing lanes for the I-35E/I-35W merge project in Denton Thursday evening, with northbound I-35W lanes closed until 5 a.m. Friday.
