CULTURE NEWS

  • In The Works, an exhibition at Dallas Contemporary showcased work by 17 MFA students from North Texas on Feb. 13 — chosen by guest curator Anna Katz to highlight bold ideas in art. The show reflected diverse personal and regional perspectives.  KERA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Feb. 19, the Board of Regents discussed the university’s growing $45 million deficit caused by a drop in international enrollment and state funding. University President Harrison Keller (who addressed the financial challenges) said a new artificial intelligence degree for the College of Engineering will launch in August.  North Texas Daily
  • Students from the College of Visual Arts and Design are holding a sit-in in the Jade Ballroom today to demand transparency over the removal of the 'Ni de Aquí, Ni de Allá' art exhibition, as Board of Regents remains in executive session until 4:50 p.m.  North Texas Daily

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Dry, warm, and windy weather in North Texas is raising wildfire risks and led to a Red Flag Warning Thursday in several counties — crews from fire departments are battling large blazes in the Panhandle as officials urge residents to avoid actions that could spark new fires.  NBC 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • TxDOT began closing lanes for the I-35E/I-35W merge project in Denton Thursday evening, with northbound I-35W lanes closed until 5 a.m. Friday. Additional closures in Denton (including the off-ramp to Bonnie Brae until 8 a.m. Saturday) and in Lewisville on Friday will cause delays.  Cross Timbers Gazette
