CULTURE NEWS

  • Thin Line Fest will return to Denton from April 23-27 with five days of films and live music from local and regional artists — the festival features 20 feature films, 20 short films, 26 music videos and over 30 concerts planned. Organizers announced the lineup but will finalize the schedule soon.  KERA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Denton Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing on April 9 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, City Council Chambers to review a request by McAdams on behalf of 195 Denton Partners LLC to rezone 195 acres from Residential 2 to Planned Development Mixed-Use Neighborhood and Planned Development Public Facilities zoning districts at the southeast corner of I35-W and Corbin Road—public comments may be considered—and the commission’s recommendation will be forwarded to City Council for final action.  Voice of Denton
  • The City of Denton City Council will hold a public hearing on April 9 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall to review proposed changes to the Thoroughfare Plan and Map for Eagle Drive, Welch Street, and Avenue A. This in-person meeting will allow residents to speak or observe — organized by the Development Services Department.  Voice of Denton
  • Lawmakers will debate bills to amend the state Constitution and set up a funding source for the Texas Water Fund amid concerns over water shortages from rapid population growth. State officials warn that a severe drought could hit by 2030—leading committees to review proposals that aim to secure water for Texans.  NBC 5

  • Today, congressional leaders from North Texas discussed inspiring the next generation during Women’s History Month and recalled milestones like Miriam ‘Ma’ Ferguson’s and Ann Richards’ leadership. The leaders stressed that more women must join all levels of office to improve policy and support emerging candidates — calling for initiatives such as the Iron Ladies Pack to help balance representation.  NBC 5
