CRIME NEWS

  • Denton officials warned residents about a utility scam involving phone calls from individuals posing as city employees who demanded immediate payments under the threat of service disconnection. They advised customers to check their account status online (or via customer service) and report any suspicious activity to their bank and the police.  Voice of Denton

CULTURE NEWS

  • Texas Woman’s University announced that its Arts and Sciences Building near Oakland and Third Streets will be demolished this summer because maintenance costs have become too high. The university will preserve the brick mural by Coreen Mary Spellman by cutting it into segments and storing them on wooden pallets until a new site is found.  Voice of Denton

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Young-Hoo Kwon, a kinesiology professor at Texas Woman's University, transformed his view on golf by leading research in biomechanics in Denton. He directs a lab that uses advanced 3D technology (a 10-camera motion capture system and 3D force plates) to study swings and is now partnering with RYP Golf to produce instructional videos that boost performance.  Voice of Denton
  • TWU is hosting its second annual Pre-Health Career Fair today from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the southwest ballroom of Hubbard Hall’s Student Union—featuring over 90 exhibitors offering diverse health programs and a free buffet lunch.  Voice of Denton
  • Deborah Hof, headmaster at Selwyn School in Argyle, said her school will decline school choice vouchers if accepting public funds leads to higher tuition and mission changes. She noted that the proposed program—which would offer most students over $10,000 and homeschooling families up to $2,000 from a $1 billion surplus and is set to begin in the 2026–2027 school year—could hurt public schools.  CBS Texas
  • Texas Woman’s University will host the Jamison Lecture featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jodi Kantor on Thursday, April 10 at 7 p.m. in the Phyllis J. Bridges Auditorium—registration is required and attendees will have a Q&A session led by host Krys Boyd with the first 50 students receiving a free signed copy of her book.  Voice of Denton

  • The Denton Fire Department will unveil Texas’ first electric fire truck at Fire Station 1 on April 11 at 4 p.m. Community members will take part in a push-in ceremony—a nod to the site’s history as Denton’s first electric plant built in 1935—as the vehicle is inducted into service.  Voice of Denton
  • Denton’s Friday Staff Report highlighted the city’s strong financial performance and national recognition for its Parks and Recreation data dashboards, while officials engaged in legislative advocacy at the Capitol during Denton County Days.
