BUSINESS NEWS

  • North Texas HVAC companies told NBC 5 that if tariffs return in July they may raise prices for air conditioning repairs by up to 20%—the increase could add thousands for home repairs and make planning more difficult.  NBC 5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Several Texas universities reported that more than 100 international students had their visas revoked after federal authorities reviewed social media activity, and school officials informed affected students. Immigration authorities said they are checking for antisemitic activity — no connection to protests has been confirmed.  NBC 5
  • University of North Texas announced at its Faculty Senate meeting on Wednesday that the Department of Homeland Security revoked the visas of 27 international students. UNT did not offer more details when the Denton Record-Chronicle asked for further information.  KERA

FINANCE NEWS

  • On Tuesday, the Texas Lottery reported that the new Mega Millions rules increased non-jackpot prizes by about $283,000 through a built-in multiplier that guaranteed a minimum payout of $10—18,158 winners received a total of $350,934 compared to $67,438 under the old system. Today, the jackpot is estimated at $72 million with a cash option of $34.3 million.  NBC 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On April 10th, the U.S. Department of State revoked visas for at least 90 international students and recent graduates at several Texas universities amid a crackdown on campus activism — the move followed warnings from Secretary Rubio. Officials at schools including Texas A&M, UT, Texas Woman's University, Texas Tech and the University of North Texas said they are guiding affected students as the process continues.  KERA
  • On Tuesday, the IRS announced it would share tax details of undocumented immigrants with ICE—only for those facing deportation orders or criminal investigations. Immigration advocates in North Texas and local attorneys expressed concerns over potential economic impacts and legal uncertainties, while the IRS acting commissioner resigned on Wednesday.  CBS Texas
