- ➤ A nonprofit in Lewisville is growing its summer program to feed children who need food when school is not in session. The group will nearly double last summer's service from 600 to 1,000 kids and seeks $372,000 in donations as well as more volunteers to meet rising demand. CBS Texas

- ➤ A small 2019 Saberwing Lightsport aircraft crashed near Propwash Airport in Denton County on Friday at about 7:10 p.m.—killing one person—and prompting an investigation by —the FAA, Texas Department of Public Safety, Denton County authorities, and Justin emergency services—. - ➤ A police chase started after a welfare check for 18-year-old Christopher King of Denton driving a red sedan ended at Lantana Golf Club early Friday afternoon when King abandoned his vehicle, fled on foot, and was arrested by the Denton County Sheriff’s Office for evading arrest. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ More than 30 international college students at UNT and TWU in Denton have lost their SEVIS status, which means many must take legal steps or leave the country—27 at UNT and 4 at TWU have been affected. Immigration lawyers say the students face few options to regain status and continue their studies. Cross Timbers Gazette
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Following last year's Denton Halloween that drew 660,000 visitors, the city is aiming to become the official Halloween Capital of Texas. State Rep. Richard Hayes filed a resolution in February that is now with the Texas House committee for Culture, Recreation and Tourism — if passed, Denton will hold the title until 2035 — as the city prepares for future celebrations.
