CRIME NEWS

  • ICE deported Venezuelan migrant Neri Jose Alvarado Borges from Lewisville after he was arrested on Feb. 24 and an immigration judge issued a final order of removal on March 5 — his autism awareness tattoo was cited as evidence of gang ties even though his family said he was no criminal — and he is now held in a notorious mega prison in El Salvador.  NBC 5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Texas lawmakers will debate HB2 on Wednesday in Austin—a school funding bill that seeks to provide more money for teacher training, a longer school year, and pre-kindergarten programs. Local school boards and business groups have supported the bill—many warn that growing enrollment may force schools to consider closing or merging.  NBC 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Denton Fire Department will unveil Texas's first hybrid-electric fire truck at a push-in ceremony Friday at Station One—Fire Chief Kenneth Hedges said the new truck was chosen to cut diesel emissions and offers both electric and diesel modes for safe operation.  NBC 5
