CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities arrested Mitchell Blake Reinacher—23-year-old grandson of Commissioner Bobbie J. Mitchell—early Monday after officers responded to an assault on Springwood Drive in Lewisville, where Fred Mitchell was fatally stabbed around 3:53 a.m. and died after 5 a.m. while Commissioner Mitchell is in stable condition following her own stab wounds.  KERA
  • Lewisville police arrested a suspect on Monday morning in connection with the fatal stabbing of Fred Mitchell—the husband of Denton County Commissioner Bobbie J. Mitchell.  Denton Record-Chronicle

  • North Texas Catholics mourned the death of Pope Francis early Monday at 7:35 a.m.—he was 88—and Fort Worth Bishop Michael Olson said his legacy of serving the poor will continue to inspire the Church. EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Texas Senate is expected to pass a school choice bill this week that gives private school students $10,000 a year—with up to $30,000 for students with disabilities—and most homeschooled children $2,000 annually. The vote follows a historic House approval nearly one week ago, and senators plan to advance the bill without changes so it can reach the Governor soon.  CBS Texas

  • At least nine tornadoes touched down on Saturday, April 19 in North Texas, damaging homes in Parker and Hood counties—one home had its roof torn off and debris scattered.
