CRIME NEWS

  • A Lewisville police affidavit alleges that county commissioner Bobbie Mitchell’s grandson—23-year-old Mitchell Blake Reinacher—broke into the home on Springwood Drive early Monday, stabbed Bobbie and her husband Fred, and faces charges of murder and aggravated assault.  KERA

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Texans will save on emergency supplies during the tax-free holiday from Saturday, April 26 through Monday, April 28—eligible products include generators under $3,000, emergency ladders and hurricane shutters under $300, and various supplies under $75 while items like face masks and cleaning supplies are not covered.  Cross Timbers Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Texas Comptroller's Office announced that emergency supplies will be tax free from 12:01 a.m. Saturday, April 26 until midnight Monday, April 28. The tax holiday covers approved items such as portable generators, emergency ladders, and hurricane shutters — buyers can request a refund if they are charged sales tax.  NBC 5
  • The Denton City Council will hold a public hearing on May 14 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall—reviewing a comprehensive plan amendment that changes the road classifications for Eagle Drive, Welch Street, and Avenue A near the University of North Texas. Any citizen may attend and speak for or against the proposals—details are available from the Development Services Department.  City of Denton
  • The City of Denton Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, May 14 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, City Council Chambers to review a Comprehensive Plan Amendment that updates the 2022 Mobility Plan’s Thoroughfare Map—this change will adjust road alignments for Underwood, Corbin, and Spring Side Roads in the area east of the City of Denton Airport and west of I-35.  Voice of Denton
