On April 12 at 2:12 a.m., a dark-colored sedan struck two female pedestrians on Carril Al Lago Drive + Denton police later arrested 27-year-old Tyras Batson after 22-year-old Deepthi Vangavolu died at the hospital and a second victim is recovering at home.

The Texas Education Agency released 2023 school grades showing that Denton ISD fell from a B last year to a C when the rating system changed.
