- ➤ Governor Greg Abbott signed a law on Saturday that creates an Education Savings Account program to help eligible students pay for private school tuition, materials, and therapies. The law takes effect on Sept. 1 — with the program slated to launch in late 2026, starting with $1 billion in funding and offering roughly $10,300 to $10,900 per student plus extra funds for students with disabilities. - ➤ Election results for city propositions in Denton and nearby North Texas cities were released after the May 3 vote, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Local transit agencies offered free rides to voters — officials now review the outcomes to guide future actions. NBC 5
- ➤ Election night changed local leadership as Argyle ISD Proposition A passed with 2,467 for to 1,286 against and Proposition B passed with 2,125 for to 1,617 against while Denton ISD Board candidates Tanya Wright and Charles R. Stafford won with 6,387 and 5,536 votes respectively—Copper Canyon incumbents lost and voters in Flower Mound, Justin and Lewisville approved key measures that will guide future policies—marking a shift in local governance. - ➤ Denton voters re-elected City Council incumbent Brian Beck with 58.2 percent and re-elected Charles Stafford as Denton ISD trustee after months of campaigning. A runoff election will be held in District 3 on June 7 between Suzi Rumohr and Margie Ellis — trustees Tanya Wright and Rodney Buddy Dunworth also won and voters decided on three propositions, with two passing and one rejected.
