- ➤ Federal REAL ID requirements took effect on May 7, so adult travelers must now show a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or another approved form of identification when flying domestically; in Texas, 98% of state-issued IDs already display a gold star & those without the mark should update their documents to avoid extra screening. - ➤ The City of Denton warned residents on May 7 about scams where fraudsters claim to be from Denton Municipal Electric and demand immediate utility payments to avoid disconnection—residents are urged not to share personal or payment information and to call official customer service with any concerns. - ➤ Two bills in the Texas Legislature aim to stop unethical pet sales by banning retail sales of puppies and kittens—one is a Senate bill coauthored by Flower Mound’s Tan Parker and the other is a House bill that recently passed committee by a 10-1 vote. The proposed laws will protect animals and consumers by creating a clear state standard since local ordinances can no longer be enacted. Cross Timbers Gazette
- ➤ On May 3, 42,353 Denton County voters cast ballots in the joint election using 6.9 percent of 614,020 registered voters — 15,000 fewer than last year. In Denton, District 2 saw a 9.13 percent turnout for a City Council race while a runoff for District 3 is set for June 7. KERA
