- ➤ One North Texas family turned a decades-old Wheel of Fortune watch party into a special event ahead of Mother's Day when they appeared on national TV (with Ryan Seacrest hosting) and danced in honor of their culture, earning $13,000 although they did not win the grand prize. CBS Texas
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Jaylen Walker from UNT ELEVAR will graduate on Monday, May 11 with a certificate in sports management despite a seven-month hospital stay for a gastrointestinal disorder — his mother Traci launches the 'Sip With Jay' campaign to raise community awareness and support. NBC 5
- ➤ North Texas schools lost access to Canvas during finals after a cyberattack reportedly exposed student names, emails, and ID numbers. Arlington ISD disconnected from the platform until service was mostly restored by late Friday (parents are advised to check accounts for suspicious emails) and officials urge caution. NBC 5
- ➤ Faculty at UNT and TWU were locked out of the Canvas platform Thursday afternoon after hackers breached the system, affecting assignment submissions and grading right before commencement ceremonies began. Denton ISD also reported issues and contacted families and staff about the outage. KERA
