COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Food banks this week highlighted a worsening hunger crisis in Texas as a new study found there are 1.3 million hungry people in North Texas—up 12% from last year—and most hunger is in Dallas and Tarrant counties with one third of those affected being children. Gov Abbott asked USDA for a SNAP waiver to restrict junk food purchases while House Agriculture Committee members proposed cutting $290 million from the program and tightening work requirements.  NBC 5

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The body of a man around 50 was recovered from Lake Lewisville on Friday after a caller from Hidden Cove said he jumped after a boat's tie line and did not resurface—Lewisville Fire Department recovered his body with Colony Fire Department leading while the Game Warden will now investigate the case.  The Dallas Morning News

CRIME NEWS

  • Denton PD issued a felony arrest warrant for Michigan woman Eva Haron who took 76-year-old Karen May Taube from Willow Bend Assisted Living and Memory Care at 2125 Brinker Road in Denton when Taube was last seen at 5 p.m. on Monday—authorities say Haron may be traveling in a white 2018 Ford F-150 with a Michigan plate.  Cross Timbers Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Senate passed Trey’s Law on Thursday to ban nondisclosure agreements in sexual abuse cases—including adults—in a 31—0 vote. The bill now heads back to the House for approval and must be moved quickly with two weeks left in the session.  NBC 5
