  • A peacock named after NBC 5 meteorologist Rick Mitchell is up for adoption at the Linda McNatt Animal Care and Adoption Center on 3717 N. Elm Street; shelter staff say the bird, once free to roam a neighborhood, now awaits a forever home—adopters should first check local rules for pet ownership eligibility.  NBC 5
  • Downtown Sanger Farmers Market has expanded by adding new sites in Valley View and Tioga as it grows from 25 to about 40-45 vendors and now attracts roughly 1,000 shoppers; the market operates every first and third Saturday and third Sunday (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.) from its downtown Sanger location at 307 Bolivar St.  KERA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Texas lawmakers are moving forward with Senate Bill 3 that will ban THC products like vapes and gummies, with fines up to $500 for possession and tougher penalties for repeat offenders—retailers selling CBD must register by Jan. 1 and the law will take effect in September if approved.  Cross Timbers Gazette
  • Texas lawmakers are negotiating a two-year state budget that must include Medicaid reimbursement for caretakers, including those at a local independent living community for young adults with autism. Lawmakers are debating whether to raise the current rate of $10.60 per hour to at least $12.44 while some proposals suggest $17.50 per hour—decisions that will impact funding for these essential services.  NBC 5
  • On May 23, the Texas Senate passed House Bill 1393 — a measure to adopt permanent daylight saving time pending Gov. Greg Abbott’s approval and federal rule changes — with a 27–4 vote. The bill now awaits federal action before it can take effect.  KERA
