- ➤ Digital billboards across North Texas will display two images of Misty Lynn McGinn for a month to seek new leads in her five-year-old missing case, and her family said she disappeared from Rice on April 19th, 2020 when she was 17 plus she is identified by her rose tattoo, glasses, and reddish pink hair. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On May 23rd, the Texas Senate passed House Bill 2 by a 31–0 vote, approving an $8.5 billion boost for public schools and permanent teacher pay raises — teachers in smaller districts may receive up to $8,000 extra and $4.2 billion will fund special education, full-day pre-K and school safety — after lawmakers struck a deal for a two-year funding increase. The bill now heads to the Texas House where it is expected to pass. CBS Texas
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Texas Legislature passed a bill that requires every public school classroom to display the Ten Commandments, with the state covering legal defense if a school is sued over the law. The measure, set to take effect at the start of the 2025-26 school year, now heads to Gov. Abbott's desk — his signature is awaited. CBS Texas
- ➤ Denton animal services plans to update its fee schedule to lower adoption fees, add a fee for pets given up by owners, and change its euthanasia policy. These proposals will cover rising service costs & encourage pet sterilization. Denton Record-Chronicle
- ➤ The Texas House passed a bill Monday morning to transfer lottery oversight from the Lottery Commission to the state licensing office and ban online sales while keeping lottery funds for schools and veterans programs. The bill will go to Governor Greg Abbott next for review and demands a full check of the lottery operations before 2029—changes made in response to a recent scandal. CBS Texas
