- ➤ Trietsch United Methodist Church in Flower Mound is calling 1,350 volunteers to pack 285,000 meals for the Philippines during a 24-hour packathon set from noon on July 18 to noon on July 19 (childcare is available for some shifts) and is also seeking sponsors and donations (more details will be provided soon). - ➤ Texas Game Wardens, Grapevine Police and Homeland Security Investigations arrested 21-year-old Daikerlyn Gonzalez (charged with Manslaughter) and 21-year-old Maikel Coello Perozo on May 27 after a high-speed personal watercraft hit the kayak of 18-year-old Ava Moore near Oak Grove Park at Grapevine Lake on May 25, leaving her dead. - ➤ Four champion spellers from North Texas, including Faizan Zaki+Shreyansh Zadoo+Avishka Dudala+Brihasa Veduru, are competing in the ongoing Scripps National Spelling Bee in National Harbor, Maryland. - ➤ The City of Denton’s Marketing and Communications team earned two national awards from the Government Media Social Media Association—Best Brand Voice for its friendly and local social media strategy and Best Paid Campaign for its Halloween event that drew over 662,000 visitors and helped Denton become the official Halloween Capital of Texas.
