- ➤ Universal is set to open Universal Kids Resort in Frisco on July 1 with seven themed lands designed for children ages 3 to 8, and a hotel with 300 rooms will open on June 30. Tickets and packages are now available for North Texas families. NBC 5
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of North Texas Board of Regents met on May 21 at UNT Health Fort Worth and reported reducing its deficit from $45 million to $34 million through cost cuts and new revenue initiatives. They also announced plans for a 1,000-bed innovation residence hall to support student success. North Texas Daily
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Double Oak residents are launching a petition to allow alcohol sales that could force a vote at the Nov. 3 election. Former mayor Bernie Carrico said the effort needs 616 signatures and a press conference is scheduled at Town Hall at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Cross Timbers Gazette
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Denton County Public Health reported that a mosquito trap along Keith Road, near Liberty Christian School, tested positive for West Nile Virus, sparking plans for fogging from Friday, 9 p.m. until Thursday, June 4, 5 a.m. Residents are advised to drain standing water and use EPA-registered repellent to minimize risk. - ➤ A mosquito trap (south of Argyle) in unincorporated Denton County tested positive for West Nile virus on Thursday, local health officials reported. Denton Record-Chronicle
