CRIME NEWS

  • Yesterday, police responded to a road rage incident near the intersection of Oak Drive and Country Lane when a man shot a woman multiple times — the victim was taken to Medical City Denton in stable condition while the suspect was arrested and investigators called for witness tips.  NBC 5

CULTURE NEWS

  • Texas Ballet Theater reached its first union contract with the American Guild of Musical Artists after nearly two years of talks that began in 2023, marking the first time a North Texas dance company organized with a union in over 40 years. The contract gives dancers benefits + yearly raises, a 50% pay increase for new dancers, paid parental leave, and health and safety protections.  KERA

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The U.S. is ramping up efforts today to fight the New World screwworm, a parasite that experts warn could cost Texas cattle producers over $11 billion a year and push beef prices to record highs. Local ranchers say the USDA will build a new fly factory in Mexico to help stop the threat (this action follows a recent 30-day cattle import ban).  NBC 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Trinity Railway Express will keep running today after lawmakers did not pass bills to cut transit funding by 25% for the train linking Fort Worth and Dallas. Officials say the decision avoids a major loss in funding—helping commuters reliably travel across North Texas.  KERA
  • Today runoffs are held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for Denton Council Member District 3 between Margie Ellis and Suzi Rumohr and for Lewisville Council Member, Place No. 4 between Lonnie Tipton and Joshua Chanin — polling locations are set by a joint election plan with Dallas County.  Cross Timbers Gazette
