- ➤ The Dallas-Fort Worth area recorded six days of unhealthy ozone levels so far, down slightly from last year, and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality said residents should be ready for more alerts later in the ozone season (March to October) as pollutants from vehicles and industries keep affecting air quality. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Downtown Denton business owners have opposed a proposed tax to fund the ambassador program—which provides cleaning, graffiti removal and security around the Square—after the city asked for input on a public improvement district; a staff report noted most of the 219 affected property owners do not support an extra tax and the issue will be discussed at the June 17 council meeting while the program will end in December if no new funding is secured. - ➤ Reality TV star Amanda Zachman’s firm MV Realty locked hundreds of homeowners into 40-year agreements by offering up to $5,000 for exclusive real estate services that include a termination fee of about 3% of the home’s value and filing a memorandum that blocks refinancing or selling. The CBS News Texas I-Team found more than 500 properties in DFW under these contracts—with over 1,200 statewide—and while the company filed for bankruptcy in September 2023, 11 other states are suing it for allegedly deceptive practices.
