- ➤ Denton County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety arrested 36-year-old Neeraj Singh Kanyal and 31-year-old Ankita Kanyal from Oak Point—accused of organized retail crime—and recovered $1 million in stolen merchandise while seizing $636,000 in cash; the investigation remains ongoing. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The 89th Texas Legislative session ended on June 2, and Denton residents noted that House Bill 2, Senate Bill 2, and SB 13 passed to boost public school funding, start a voucher program, and set library book rules. Gov. Abbott has until June 22 to sign or veto the pending bills on displaying the Ten Commandments, allowing daily prayer in schools, and banning THC — most will take effect on Sept. 1 or early next year.
