Good morning, Denton.

Two Denton County residents—36-year-old Neeraj Singh Kanyal and 31-year-old Ankita Kanyal—face felony charges for organized crime and theft after local and state police recovered $1 million in stolen goods and seized $636,000 in cash from a retail theft investigation; Ankita is also charged with interfering with public duties and both are held at Denton County Jail on bonds totaling $20,000 with an extra $500 bond for her interfering charge.

The City of Denton announced that many services will change for Juneteenth.

On June 19, airports’ admin offices, animal services, libraries, municipal courts and recreation centers will be closed while curbside waste collection shifts and utilities limit service, with normal operations resuming June 20 at 8 a.m.

Gov. Greg Abbott visited Denton on Monday, June 16th, as he signed three bills into law for a $10 billion property tax relief package at Robson Ranch; he signed Senate Bills 4 and 23.

This fall, Texans will vote on a measure to approve $10 billion in state funds for expanded homestead exemptions.

Denton Municipal Electric will ask City Council today to consider a new natural gas power plant as it looks at ways to meet the city’s energy needs.

The utility also saw new rate increases and changes to solar payouts that may raise bills in future months — city officials will discuss these plans soon.
