Data from United Way of Denton County’s point-in-time count shows a 33% rise in the number of people without housing compared to 2024.

The count reported 408 individuals sheltered, including 103 children, and noted that about 27% of those without housing are Black (despite Black residents making up only 11% of the county) as local organizations plan to expand supportive services and housing options.

Dallas-Fort Worth law enforcement agencies announced active shooter training sessions—designed to help residents respond quickly—in 31 North Texas locations including the Denton Public Safety Training Center on Saturday, June 28.

The CRASE program teaches civilians to avoid, deny, and defend—sessions run from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and are open to all ages.

Gov. Abbott signed Senate Bill 835 over the weekend, which will ban nondisclosure agreements in cases of sexual abuse and human trafficking and free victims from such agreements unless a defendant gets a court order, with the law set to take effect Sept.
