GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 3070 on Sunday, banning online lottery ticket sales & ending the Texas Lottery Commission as the lottery will run until 2029 and be managed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation starting Sept. 1. Lawmakers introduced the changes to prevent issues seen in a nearly $95 million jackpot win.  KERA
  • Dallas Police and 30 other North Texas agencies will host the largest active shooter training event in the U.S. this Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.—the free training is aimed at helping parents, teachers and business owners learn quick response steps.  NBC 5
  • The City of Denton City Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, July 15th at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall Council Chambers to consider a Specific Use Permit for a multi-family dwelling on 4.115 acres near Fallmeadow Street; the Council may approve requests consistent with Denton Plan 2040 and impose penalties of up to $2,000 for violations.  Voice of Denton
  • On Tuesday, July 15 at 6:30 p.m., the Denton City Council will hold a public hearing in the City Council Chambers at City Hall to consider changing the zoning of a 1.09-acre parcel on the north side of West University Drive between Willow Lane and Cottonwood Lane. The ordinance will change the use from Residential 2 to Mixed-Use Neighborhood and include a penalty of up to $2,000 for violations — nearby property owners have been notified under state guidelines.  Voice of Denton
