Good morning, Denton. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 9th of July.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Texans rallied as North Texas pilots flew essential supplies to Central Texas flood victims on Tuesday during Operation Airdrop’s 15th mission. The group completed over 20 flights and filled a trailer with donations — their work highlights the community's support — while now asking for financial contributions.  CBS Texas
  • Denton Community Shelter will stop offering 24/7 overnight services starting Aug. 1 except during inclement weather (it will now operate from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. as a day shelter) as it shifts to a housing-focused model serving 120 guests at a time. Our Daily Bread said case managers will focus on direct support for up to 20 guests (aiming to help more people move toward stable independent living) as homelessness demand rises.  KERA

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Sunday, Denton firefighters worked in Kerrville on search-rescue missions after floods along the Guadalupe River killed at least 68 people and rescued about 850 individuals while more than 400 first responders from 20 agencies assisted as Gov.-Greg Abbott signed a disaster declaration to bolster relief efforts.  KERA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Flower Mound Town Council approved two exceptions that let the Hindu temple use a flat roof and waive a 25-foot buffer so the property is accessible via a flag lot—residents raised concerns about traffic and noise. Temple leaders said they will plant evergreen trees—an effort to keep the view attractive—and work with local schools as construction begins with phase one planned to finish in the fall of 2026.  Cross Timbers Gazette
