- ➤ A Denton man pleaded guilty on Monday to stalking WNBA player Caitlin Clark in Indianapolis—court documents show Michael Thomas Lewis, 55, traveled from Denton in December and now faces a total of 1,090 consecutive days in jail while being barred from contacting her and urged to seek mental health treatment. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Big Tex’s size 96 cowboy boots, crafted by Lucchese Bootmaker and a Dallas State Fair favorite since 2012, left Texas on July 28 to head to a yearlong national exhibition at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. They will arrive in Washington on Aug. 1 and Big Tex will get new boots on Sept.26 for the Fair’s opening day—marking only the second time the boots have left Texas—after not leaving since 1953. - ➤ The Denton City Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, August 19th at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall to consider changing zoning for about 21.8 acres at the southwest corner of Spring Side Road and Corbin Road from Rural Residential to Heavy Industrial. The proposal includes a $2,000 penalty for violations — it must follow the Denton 2040 Comprehensive Plan. City of Denton
- ➤ The Denton City Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, August 19 at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall to discuss an ordinance that would approve a specific use permit for a boarding house on a 0.403-acre lot at the southwest corner of West Oak and Fry Streets—if adopted, the proposal may include penalties of up to $2,000 for violations and be adjusted in line with the Denton 2040 Comprehensive Plan.
