- ➤ Denton’s Community Shelter, run by Our Daily Bread, held a virtual town hall on July 23 where Executive Director Wendy McGee explained the nonprofit will shift from an emergency shelter model to a housing-focused program that will reduce bed capacity while increasing case management. The new plan will take effect on Sept. 1 and modify day shelter hours from Aug. 1 — focusing resources on long-term housing stability — with additional diversion beds added. North Texas Daily

- ➤ H-E-B plans to build a 119,000-square-foot store at the northeast corner of University Drive and Bonnie Brae Street near the University of North Texas. Construction will begin in late spring 2026 (the company bought the property in October 2015 and is now working with city officials on permits), making it the second H-E-B planned for Denton. - ➤ Residents in Denton said the HOA’s drainage of the pond on Sherman Drive and Hercules Lane in early July led to wildlife harm—killing fish and leaving beavers and Canada geese without a home. City staff and the HOA board are discussing solutions as neighbors express concern over the $70,000 spent and the loss of natural habitat. KERA
