- ➤ AT&T said copper theft in North Texas has grown—costing more than $1 million in DFW and cutting service to homes and businesses—as the company installs trackers, new metal casings and offers a $10,000 reward for tips. NBC 5
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A group of Denton artists is building a 3D printed diorama of the downtown square at Halloween, Texas led by local resident David Bayon who shared the project on Reddit. The team uses 3D printing, sanding and painting to create detailed models and plans to finish the diorama by Oct. 1 so it can be shown during the 31 Days of Halloween — a collective effort that brings local creatives together. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Denton ISD school board approved a policy this week to form a library advisory council—made up of district officials, librarians, parents and students—to review and recommend library materials under Senate Bill 13. The council will meet at least twice a year to help guide how the district selects classroom and donated books. KERA
- ➤ On August 4th, Texas lawmakers reintroduced Senate Bill 8 and House Bill 8 to phase out the STAAR test and replace it with three shorter assessments—reviving a plan that failed during the regular session earlier this year. The bills also change how the Texas Education Agency grades schools and would take effect for the 2027-2028 school year if passed. KERA
