BUSINESS NEWS

  • Owner Tonya Cobb of Cobbins Family Pumpkin Patch in Denton said Monday morning storms damaged her property—snapping trees, scattering debris and breaking the gate—and she may cancel the October opening if repair estimates this weekend push costs too high. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Denton ISD announced its 'Unplug to Connect' campaign for the 2025-2026 school year, which limits personal device use during class and requires devices to remain off and stored in backpacks or lockers—this follows a successful pilot that boosted student engagement and behavior. • Even with new state funding that covers part of teacher and support staff raises, Denton ISD faces a $15 million budget deficit for the next school year—officials say increased homestead exemptions and mandated compensation costs have limited local revenue, so the district will need to boost enrollment or hold a tax ratification election. School board leaders are reviewing their options as they work to balance rising costs with changing property values.  KERA
