A man died after being shot downtown Saturday afternoon following a dispute between a local patron and an individual experiencing homelessness — police detained a subject on scene and took the victim to a hospital where life-saving efforts failed — and the investigation continues.

A homeless man was killed in a shooting in Downtown Square — Denton police are investigating to determine what happened.

Denton Police reported a busy week with 2,197 calls and 64 arrests from July 28 to August 3— a Saturday shooting on the downtown Square injured one person and led to a detained suspect— and additional incidents included a road rage gun threat on Loop 288, a Wednesday arrest of a woman for throwing a pocketknife and threatening with a meat cleaver, a Tuesday detention of a nude man filming outside a church and an early Sunday crash by an intoxicated driver into a barrier.
