- ➤ Denton PD is investigating a fatal downtown shooting that occurred Saturday afternoon when a disturbance on the Square led to 61-year-old Jon Ruff being shot multiple times on W. Hickory Street—he was pronounced dead at a hospital—and the shooter was detained and is cooperating with police. City of Denton
- ➤ Denton police said 61-year-old Jon Ruff died after a fight turned violent and he was shot several times on W. Hickory Street last Saturday at 12:10 p.m.—the suspect was detained and police are asking anyone with video to contact Detective Badiru. The Dallas Morning News
- ➤ On Saturday afternoon, Denton police investigated a fatal downtown shooting in which 61-year-old Jon Ruff, a homeless man, was shot multiple times after an altercation on Denton Square that moved to West Hickory Street, and the shooter remained at the scene while police asked anyone with video footage to call Detective Badiru at 940-349-7977 — no charges have been filed. - ➤ Bill Scrivner withdrew his helistop proposal for his 15-acre property on 250 Simmons Road in Double Oak on Wednesday—after the Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended rejecting the request, the Town Council will not review it on Aug. 18 and Scrivner does not plan to resubmit. - ➤ Denton Mayor Gerard Hudspeth was contacted by ICE Dallas last week—requesting a meeting with city leaders to discuss the ICE 287(g) program that could let Denton police screen immigration offenders; city officials stressed that any decision from the meeting must be approved by the full City Council.
