CULTURE NEWS

  • North Texas will host multiple fall festivals that offer music, food and art—Denton will feature its 27th Blues Festival at Quakertown Park from Sept. 19 to 21 and Halloween events downtown from Oct. 1 to Nov. 1.  KERA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Denton announced that many facilities will close on Monday, Sept. 1 for Labor Day, including Animal Services, Libraries, Municipal Courts, and several recreational centers — while key services like the air traffic control tower and select parks remain open. Regular operations will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 2.  City of Denton
  • Texas lawmakers passed Senate Bill 16, which now defines real estate theft as its own crime—extending the window for reporting deed fraud from five to ten years. Dallas County Clerk John Warren said the measure aims to protect homeowners and ensure that victims of property scams are heard.  NBC 5
  • State officials and planners say two flood mitigation projects along the Trinity River are top priorities to lower flood risks for about a million residents, including those in Denton. The Trinity River Authority and Texas Nature Conservancy said the projects — one using data forecasting and one with a nature-based approach — will help protect homes during heavy rains in coming years.  KERA
  • On August 26th, the Denton Fire Department earned a three-year accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services after meeting all 107 standards, making it one of only 34 fire departments in the United States and Canada to receive the honor — a clear sign of Denton’s commitment to top-quality emergency care. This award shows the community that the fire department remains a trusted partner in keeping residents safe.  City of Denton
