BUSINESS NEWS

  • Starting Monday, Texas law bans the sale and advertising of vapes containing cannabinoid derivatives, alcohol, Kratom, kava, mushrooms, or tianeptine, and prohibits products made in foreign adversary countries or designed to appeal to minors—businesses may face fines up to $4,000 or up to one year in jail for violations.  NBC 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Texas law SB 2024 will ban sales of vapes that contain cannabinoids on Sept 1—those who sell risk up to one year in jail and a $4,000 fine although possession remains legal. Lawmakers set the ban to help keep teenage users from getting these products.  KERA
  • House Bill 35 will create a new peer support network to help firefighters and EMS workers access mental health care; the law goes into effect Sept 1 and the network will be fully operational by March 2026—designed after a successful law enforcement program.  KERA
  • TxDOT warned Denton County drivers that major construction near the I-35E/I-35W interchange and on I-35W from McCormick Street to U.S. 380 may cause delays on game days at DATCU Stadium during UNT Mean Green football games. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes such as Loop 288 and FM 1173—allow extra travel time and check traffic updates before travel.  Cross Timbers Gazette
  • Starting Sept. 1, 835 new Texas laws will take effect and change rules for land buying, e-cigarettes, health care, and more. Some laws will raise penalties for assaulting utility workers and add funds for film makers and first responders — changes that will affect many Texans every day.  KERA
