GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Denton Television won six national awards at the Government Programming Awards on Aug. 21—its 'Fire Summer Camp' video won a top honor in the children and young adults category along with awards for Arts and Entertainment, Public Safety, and Instruction/Training. Greg Abbott signed a new Texas congressional map on Aug. 29 that shifted some district boundaries in Denton—moving parts of eastern Denton and areas near the University of North Texas into different districts—and a lawsuit was filed challenging the changes. Critics say the redistricting weakens the voting power of minority groups—so residents should check their district status before the 2026 midterms. KERA
