  • Denton smoke shops cleared their shelves of most disposable and cannabinoid vapes after Senate Bill 2024 took effect on Sept 1, and store workers reported fewer customers and lost revenue. Gov Greg Abbott’s Sept 10 executive order directs state agencies to start rulemaking for banning hemp-derived THC sales to minors—while local managers worry about a rise in off-the-street vapes.  North Texas Daily

CRIME NEWS

  • University of North Texas officials on Thursday issued a statement condemning the recent disruptive campus actions following the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University—warning that students who break the code of conduct will be held accountable and noting his visit to the Denton campus a year ago.  KERA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On September 12th, Lt Gov Dan Patrick sharply criticized Gov Abbott's new order regulating hemp-derived THC — he argued that the order gives the industry a state seal of approval even as dangerous products continue to reach children. He said that only a full ban could truly protect kids from the harmful effects of these products.  CBS Texas

  • Denton ISD listed the former Newton Rayzor Elementary School site for sale near the northeast corner of Malone Street and University Drive. The cleared 18.29 acre lot—demolished after the school moved following a 2018 bond election—is represented by the Nivens Group.  KERA
