GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Sept. 30, Denton City Council discussed changes to the Capital Improvements Advisory Committee to meet new state laws and approved a draft ordinance for staggered four-year terms—staff and council members debated rules for local and extraterritorial residents. The council also reviewed billing practices that would speed refunds and ease payment plans while keeping steady revenue, and both measures will return for further action in coming months.  North Texas Daily
  • Denton Municipal Electric signed a 10-year agreement with Jupiter Power for 100MW battery storage as part of the Tidwell Power II project, approved by the City Council on September 30. The contract will start delivering power in June and will boost grid reliability by storing extra renewable energy + supporting energy stability.  Voice of Denton

  • An 11-year-old boy with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and his grandmother pushed for a cure when CureDuchenne held its Champions in Dallas fundraiser on Oct.2 to aid a Denton clinic caring for underserved patients—hoping to lift the burden for him and 300,000 other boys.  CBS Texas
