EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Texas Woman’s University was ranked among the nation’s top 500 colleges by the Wall Street Journal for 2026—placing it second among North Texas colleges and seventh among public universities. The ranking—based on student experience, career preparation and return on investment—shows the university’s efforts to improve student outcomes. North Texas Daily
- ➤ Jared Mosley, vice president and director of athletics, proposed a 40% fee increase during the Oct. 8 Student Government Association meeting that would raise the fee from $17.85 to a starting $20 and eventually $25 over four years — a change aimed at closing the funding gap in athletics. The SGA will soon vote on the proposal — giving students a chance to decide on a fee that is automatically added to tuition for in-person classes. North Texas Daily
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Federal workers in North Texas missed full paychecks on Friday as the government shutdown continued—union leaders reported that TSA and EPA employees have begun facing furloughs and layoffs. Lawmakers warned that more than 130,000 federal workers and contractors may suffer further pay problems if the shutdown extends until the Senate returns on Tuesday. CBS Texas

- ➤ Texas high school football scores for games on Oct. 9 and Oct. 10 were released—teams statewide, including Denton's Guyer with 44 points on Thursday, and Friday's contests produced varied results while Saturday's scores will be updated after the games finish. NBC 5
- ➤ South Florida beat North Texas 63–36 Friday—ending UNT's unbeaten run. Byrum Brown threw three touchdown passes and ran for two more as the Bulls scored four quick touchdowns after halftime. NBC 5
