  • UNT alum Samuel Holsomback and his wife Avery had a surprise when their baby, Evelyn, arrived 10 days early during a sold-out game day — they left DATCU Stadium and missed the match as the team fell to South Florida. The couple look forward to sharing Denton pride with their new family member at future games.  NBC 5

CULTURE NEWS

  • TWU Theatre, led by Professor Patrick Bynane (director), began a fresh production of Thornton Wilder's Our Town on October 14 at Redbud Theater. The minimalist show uses simple sets to capture Wilder's themes and will continue with more performances, with tickets costing $10 for adults (and $5 for students, children and seniors).  Voice of Denton
  • Haunted houses in North Texas are giving visitors spooky thrills this fall as guests walk through eerie mazes and enjoy interactive rides at venues like The Parker House in Denton—other locations offer live actors and themed scares across the region. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Grayson College and UNT have announced a new partnership to ease student transfers, allowing eligible graduates with a 3.0 or higher to receive a $500 bonus and support through the Eagle Bound Program. Grayson students will be invited to meet UNT counselors at Transfer Express — scheduled for November 11 at Grayson College.  Voice of Denton

  • Mark Nair, a candidate for Congress in Texas’s 13th District, will host a public rally at Anderson’s Distillery in Denton on October 17 — doors open at 6:00 p.m. and remarks begin at 6:45 p.m. — where he will discuss local issues and his plans for the district.  Voice of Denton

HEALTH NEWS

  • Denton County Public Health found West Nile Virus in a mosquito trap west of Prosper and southeast of Pilot Point. They began preventive fogging on October 10 and will continue until October 16—truck-based ultra-low volume methods will be used nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.  Voice of Denton
