- ➤ Denton’s annual Day of the Dead festival runs Oct. 24-26 and will feature coffin races on Oct. 25 at noon at 110 W. Hickory St.—more than 70 teams will compete in time trials for the skull trophy and bragging rights. KERA
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Denton ranked first nationally for pollinator observations after more than 300 volunteers recorded species during a month-long BioBlitz using the iNaturalist app. Denton Parks and Recreation officials announced the ranking on Oct. 10 — noting that local efforts in parks like Cross Timbers and Backland Prairie helped secure the win as Fort Worth finished second. - ➤ On Oct. 1, Northlake annexed a 155.783-acre tract near Texas Motor Speedway and changed its zoning to Industrial Planned Development to allow for industrial projects—Provident Industrial plans to build three buildings totaling about 1.5 million square feet as part of Northlake Park Commerce, a move expected to boost tax revenue by 2055.
