ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Early Friday morning, local fire departments battled five house fires and three building fires caused by strong thunderstorms in Denton County—Flower Mound FD led the effort in Double Oak, Northlake, and Coppell—with all fires controlled without injuries as officials warned residents to stay indoors because more severe weather was coming. - ➤ Texas Woman’s University Musical Theatre will debut its full season with Zombie Prom at the Margo Jones Performance Hall from Oct. 30 to Nov. 1—offering a 1950s-style show with a zombie twist that is family friendly. The production, directed by Julio Agustin Matos Jr., aligns with Denton’s 31 Days of Halloween and kicks off a season that will include more musical events. Voice of Denton

- ➤ On Oct 21, Denton ISD and the City Council discussed Proposition A that would raise the maintenance and operations tax by five cents to generate about $26.9 million and help turn a $15.2 million deficit into an $11.6 million surplus—officials said the increase would help avoid further staff cuts and school closures. District leaders noted that most homeowners will still see a slight decrease in their total property tax bill because of higher homestead exemptions. North Texas Daily
- ➤ Clarissa Clarke, the Government Relations Officer at North Texas Food Bank, said SNAP benefits for November may not be provided if the government shutdown extends past Monday, October 27th—potentially leaving many families without needed food support. CBS Texas
