United Way of Denton County launched the Food Insecurity Relief Fund on Wednesday to support families affected by the SNAP benefits pause from the government shutdown—local food pantries expect a surge in demand with more than 46,000 people impacted.

The fund will distribute donations to nonprofits until SNAP benefits resume.

Joseph Edwards, the friendly store greeter at Ace Hardware 66, is being honored today at a public retirement celebration held from Noon until 4 p.m. at the store on Sycamore School Road—after more than eight years of service, he will leave on November 30 to care for his mom and sister in North Carolina.
