Nine North Texas school districts, including Denton ISD, held VATRE elections on Nov.
4 to decide on small property tax rate increases that would fund daily school operations such as teacher salaries — Denton ISD proposed a 5-cent hike expected to bring in about $26 million. Districts adjusted their maintenance and operations tax structures to meet rising costs — if approved, these changes will support school budget needs for the next year.
