- ➤ DanceMakers 2025 will take place in Denton from November 13-15 at the Margo Jones Performance Hall, where over 40 dancers will showcase diverse styles—ticket prices are $5 for students and $10 for general admission. - ➤ The University of North Texas has unveiled its five-year strategic plan, Look North: UNT 2030, to help students succeed, grow research, and boost the local economy—supported by Denton Mayor Gerard Hudspeth and community partners. The plan, led by President Harrison Keller, will roll out new programs and a $100 million campaign to open career paths and build industry partnerships—guiding the region toward future success. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A large domestic duck named Vincent, who had been protecting dumped and flightless ducks at North Lakes Park’s south pond, disappeared on Halloween after people were seen with a plastic container and a vandalism message was left with cattail seeds — prompting wildlife rehabilber Jessica Escue and a university student to collect evidence as authorities continue to investigate the suspicious incidents. Escue has reported the case to police and Animal Services while urging residents to help prevent further cases of dumped animals. KERA

- ➤ Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton will speak at a Turning Point USA event on Monday at the University of North Texas campus at 7 p.m. at the Lyceum (his appearance supports conservative students who have faced alleged censorship from university officials). KERA

- ➤ Denton reported its second human case of West Nile Virus on November 6 and raised its risk level to 5 under the Mosquito Surveillance and Response Plan. City officials urged residents to remove standing water and use insect repellent—critical steps to limit mosquito bites and prevent further infections. Voice of Denton
