  • Longtime friends installed a holiday light display on retired Army Staff Sgt. Kyl Benton's Aubrey home ahead of Veterans Day—honoring his service as he faces challenges with PTSD and financial strain while the North Texas sunset marked the surprise effort.  NBC 5
  • Veterans Day is today and events across North Texas honor military service with parades at halls of state and ceremonies at museums. Local restaurants will offer free meals for veterans and active military — Texas Roadhouse, Applebee’s, Chili’s, Chipotle, Panther City BBQ, and Starbucks join the celebrations.  CBS Texas

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At UNT, President Keller announced three key projects during his state-of-university address last week—funding health insurance for doctoral students this semester, a $100 million investment in student retention and success, and a new initiative to promote civil discourse on campus. The university will complete these actions before 2030 and enhance faculty recognition to support improved student outcomes.  KERA

  • North Texans struggled amid the government shutdown as local businesses and churches provided food and financial aid to families affected by the crisis—one Denton resident organized a meal drive that packed 1,800 meals for the local food center. SPORTS NEWS

  • Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine and TexasFootball.com released the final 2025 high school football rankings—Denton Guyer finished 10th in Class 6A with an 8 to 2 record after a 42 to 0 win against Denton Braswell.   • Texas high schools released the Class 6A playoff Bi-District schedules for games from November 14th to 16th, detailing matchups, timings and sites statewide.
