- ➤ United Way of Denton County set up the food insecurity relief fund on Oct. 29—responding to rising local need after SNAP benefits were halted by the government shutdown—and raised $9,755 by Nov. 10 from donations to support food pantries. The fund will keep collecting donations to help households facing food shortages. North Texas Daily
- ➤ Starting November 15 at 9:00 a.m., Denton Community Market will offer Double Up Fresh Bucks food vouchers valued up to $20 to help bridge the SNAP gap—supporting local families in need of additional food resources. - ➤ Denton’s Rock Lottery will take place tomorrow as 24 local artists are grouped into five new bands that have 12 hours to write original songs before performing live at Dan’s Silverleaf at 9:30 p.m. Tickets cost $25 or $30 (which includes breakfast for the 9 a.m. band selection ceremony) and all event profits will be donated to KUZU 92.9 FM. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Denton ISD approved targeted improvement and turnaround plans for six underperforming elementary schools during a public hearing Tuesday. Four campuses including Alexander, Cross Oaks, Martinez and Paloma Creek will follow targeted plans while Ginnings at Evers Park and Providence will follow turnaround strategies, and teachers will begin receiving incentive payments in 2026-27.
