COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Denton Enterprise Airport and Sheltair Aviation are hosting a holiday food drive from November 7 through December 5 to help local families facing food insecurity. Non-perishable items are welcome from flight students, tenants, and visitors, and donors may drop off items at centers including the Denton Community Food Center (open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.).  Voice of Denton

CULTURE NEWS

  • Texas Woman’s University will stage the play POTUS from November 19 to November 23 at the Redbud Theater & alumna Claire Parry makes her directorial debut by offering a funny take on one day in the White House. Ticket prices are ten dollars for adults and five dollars for students, children and seniors & evening and matinee shows are scheduled throughout the run.  Voice of Denton

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Peter Balabuch, executive director of dining services, announced at the Nov. 12 meeting that the Union’s Starbucks will be replaced by an in-house cafe offering Voltage Coffee products and Fuzzy’s Taco Shop will become Union Burger—renovations will start over the holiday break. A contract with Qdoba is in process to take over the former Chick-fil-A on the Union’s second floor, with most changes to be fully implemented by next fall or the end of the school year.  North Texas Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • University of North Texas researchers are developing an AI system to quickly detect debris on highways using data from WAZE, dash cameras and CCTV as growing population pressures roadway safety. The two-year project in collaboration with TxDOT and Texas A&M Transportation Institute will test a prototype algorithm to improve traffic management and response times.  Voice of Denton
  • Denton County is experiencing major road closures due to construction work near the UNT campus and on Lewisville’s Main Street Bridge — in Denton, the northbound I-35E closed Friday night and will close again Saturday and Sunday nights, while Lewisville and Northlake have scheduled closures affecting express lanes and Hwy 114 this weekend.  Cross Timbers Gazette

  • Hillwood detailed Phase 1 of Landmark, a $10B mega-development near Argyle that will include 700 single-family homes, preserved green space and community amenities — including an H-E-B — as shown in its renderings and maps.  Denton Record-Chronicle

  • North Texas women’s soccer coach John Hedlund announced he will retire after the 2026 season — ending a record-setting career that began in 1995.
