Out of the Darkness DFW Metro Walk Set for November 7th at The Sound at Cypress Waters

DALLAS-FORT WORTH, TX — The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) North Texas chapter will host the DFW Metro Out of the Darkness Walk on Saturday, November 7th, 2026, at The Sound at Cypress Waters, just east of DFW Airport.

Registration is free and open to the public at afsp.org/dfw

Now the second largest suicide prevention walk in the country by number of walkers, the DFW Metro Walk is expected to bring together nearly 4,000 participants this year, with a community fundraising goal of $500,000. This year the walk moves to a new home at The Sound at Cypress Waters, a lakeside venue with room for the event's continued growth.

The Out of the Darkness Walk is AFSP's signature community event, held in hundreds of cities across the country each year. Families, friends, coworkers, veterans, first responders, students, and neighbors walk to raise awareness, honor loved ones lost to suicide, support those who struggle, and raise funds for research, education, advocacy, and programs for people affected by suicide. Many walkers wear honor beads, with each color representing a personal connection to the cause.

"Suicide touches every part of our community, and no one should have to face that loss or that struggle alone," said Ryan M. Newcomb, Executive Director of AFSP North & Central Texas. "The DFW Metro Walk has grown into one of the largest gatherings for suicide prevention anywhere in the country, and that growth reflects how many North Texans care about this cause. We invite everyone to join us at The Sound at Cypress Waters to remember the people we have lost and to show anyone who is struggling that help and hope are real."

Funds raised through the walk support AFSP's mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide. Nationally, AFSP invests $35 million into research, education, awareness, and advocacy. The North Texas chapter serves 61 counties with prevention education, support programs for suicide loss survivors, and community events like the DFW Metro Walk.

Registration, donation, team, and volunteer information is available at afsp.org/dfw
