- ➤ On April 12 at 2:12 a.m., a dark-colored sedan struck two female pedestrians on Carril Al Lago Drive + Denton police later arrested 27-year-old Tyras Batson after 22-year-old Deepthi Vangavolu died at the hospital and a second victim is recovering at home. City of Denton
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Texas Education Agency released 2023 school grades showing that Denton ISD fell from a B last year to a C when the rating system changed. Denton ISD joined a lawsuit in 2023 over these changes (a move seen in many North Texas districts) and said it will work hard to help students succeed. KERA

- ➤ The Denton City Council will hold a public hearing on May 14th at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall to review a Comprehensive Plan Amendment that modifies the Thoroughfare Plan and Map for Eagle Drive, Welch Street, and Avenue A—citizens can share their views or observe the meeting. Voice of Denton
- ➤ Officials from the Denton Police Department, city staff and local business leaders met on April 17 to discuss downtown safety concerns, focusing on homelessness and resource limits.
